Costa Brass Cabinet Knob

How does brass differ from aluminium, and why is Costa made of brass?

Brass is an alloy of copper and zinc with a much higher density than aluminium – the Costa knob is noticeably heavier, which directly conveys the quality of the material the moment you touch it. Aluminium is coloured with lacquer or by anodising, giving a predictable, uniform effect. Brass has a distinctive, warm and golden colour. With a knob, where all contact is concentrated on a small, round surface, the solidity of the material is particularly noticeable.

Which Costa size should I choose – 20 mm or 25 mm?

The 20 mm knob works well on narrow drawer fronts and cupboards up to approx. 35 cm wide – a proportionally smaller piece does not overwhelm the front. The 25 mm size is more versatile and suits standard kitchen cupboard doors and the fronts of bedside tables and chests of drawers 40–60 cm wide. If in doubt, 25 mm is the safer choice – on most fronts it looks more substantial and is easier to grip without having to aim precisely.

Can the Costa knob be combined with cabinet handles in a gold finish?

Yes – Costa goes well with handles in a brushed gold finish from the aluminium series. Bear in mind that the gold of brass has a slightly warmer, richer shade than brushed gold on aluminium. It is an attractive visual effect, but worth keeping in mind when planning the combination. A popular pairing is Costa knobs on upper cupboard doors with gold handles on the lower drawers – this keeps the colour coordinated while varying the form of the handle.

How is the Costa knob fitted, and does it fit IKEA furniture?

Costa is fitted using a single M4 hole: the screw passes through the front from the back and screws into the thread in the knob base. A fixing screw is included with each item and fits fronts of standard thickness. The Costa knob is compatible with IKEA furniture that has a factory-drilled fixing hole, and with any front once you have drilled an M4 hole yourself with a 4 mm drill bit in your chosen position.

Does the Costa knob fit standard cabinet fronts?

Yes, the knob is fitted using a single hole with an M4 screw, so it fits most standard cabinet fronts.

Can the colour vary from one item to another?

Yes, the shade may vary slightly depending on the batch and the angle of the light.

How do I fit a handle on the front correctly?

We recommend fitting the handles with a manual cross-head screwdriver only. We advise against using electric screwdrivers, as too much torque can damage the thread or the surface of the handle. When planning where to fit them, allow a gap of a few millimetres from the edge of the front. For large fronts or heavy drawers, we recommend keeping a gap of 1–2 cm from the edge, which makes them more comfortable to use and distributes the forces better.
